Enterprise Information Management

Open Text InternAre you passionate about…

Finding ways to improve systems and making things work better? Unleashing the power of information? Working in a fast-paced, high-energy and collaborative environment? Standing out in the crowd and being seen as an individual? Being part of a multicultural environment? Working for a company that puts their employees first? Why not consider a career with OpenText, Canada’s largest software company and leader in Enterprise Information Management?

In a Nutshell, Who is OpenText?

OpenText is the leader in Enterprise Information Management (EIM), helping organizations better manage their growing volumes of information. EIM enables organizations to grow their business, lower costs of operations, and reduce information governance and security related risks. As they say at OpenText, “Our customers’ success is at the heart of everything we do.” OpenText manages and maximizes its resources and relationships to achieve this, helping more than 50,000 global customers build digital enterprises by unleashing the power of information.

What is the day-to-day atmosphere like? What would you see when you walk through the office doors?

With more than 5,000 employees globally, supporting millions of users across the globe, it’s difficult to describe a “typical week” on the job. “While we all work towards a common goal, the path to success involves many important moving parts,” describes James Cleaver, Senior Manager of Recruiting at OpenText. You can expect a fast-paced, high-energy and collaborative environment that is multi-talented and multicultural. Believing that it’s our differences that foster innovation, employees at OpenText span a wide range of skills, backgrounds and education.

Foosball Anyone

You can also be sure to find an environment that encourages work-life balance, whether that’s through a comprehensive benefits plan, working with flex-time, or providing an open layout office design, with ‘clustered’ workspaces that stimulate collaboration. When it’s time for a break, you can grab a scrumptious bite to eat in the cafeteria, sip a Starbucks frappucino, or get your game-face on for a little friendly competition in the games room, complete with big screen TVs, PS3, ping pong, Wii, and more – foosball anyone?

What makes OpenText a cool place to work?

The challenge, diversity, mental stimulation and, of course, the rewards all make OpenText a great place to work. The company respects lifestyle and cultural differences, believing that is the unique strengths of an individual that make for a stronger company. That’s why OpenText looks to empower employees through opportunities like continuous learning and access to leading-edge technology. As far as perks go, OpenText has one for every season! Whether it’s ice cream at your desk during the dog days of summer, a family picnic at Wonderland, or a winter holiday party, OpenText likes to keep it social. The company also believes in recognizing its superstar employees. “Receiving an e-mail with draws for theatre tickets or details on an upcoming event is like getting a little present of appreciation in your inbox. It’s a nod for your hard work and a chance to get out and mingle with colleagues,” says recent grad and new hire, Ian Monk, Online Learning Coordinator & Developer at OpenText. It’s no wonder that OpenText has been chosen as one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers and as one of Canada’s Top Employers for Young People in 2012. Not to mention, the Financial Post’s Ten Best Companies to Work For and Waterloo Area’s Top Employers for 2012. Wow, now that’s a lot of awards!

With all the fun stuff, let’s not forget the importance of the work. “The knowledge that we’re all part of building the future of this amazing company really fosters a sense of unity,” says Ian. Having recently celebrated their 20th Anniversary with the opening of their Innovation Centre and sponsoring the CDMN Canada 3.0 Digital Forum, OpenText’s pursuit of excellence in innovation continues to propel the company forward.

“We welcome recent graduates with open arms! In fact, we need them. Their enthusiasm and fresh perspective encourages innovative thinking and promotes a continuous flow of ideas. It’s also a great way for OpenText to recruit new employees,” explains James Cleaver. The OpenText Canadian Campus Program hires a student every four months, drawing talented co-ops from surrounding universities including but not limited to the University of Waterloo, Wilfrid Laurier, Conestoga College, and the University of Guelph. The co-op students are integrated into the OpenText team through onboarding which involves ice breaking, team building exercises and introduction to OpenText systems. They are tasked with social media responsibilities and creating their own co-op student social committee. In addition, those hired have access to monthly professional development sessions. James describes the co-op program as a win-win: “We always look forward to what each student will bring to OpenText and strive, in return, to provide them with positive experiences that will help them in their careers.”
